Numico Research Australia’s history dates back to the mid 1980’s when the South Australian Department of Agriculture formed an entity called NorthField Laboratories to develop Gastrogard-R_® to prevent rotavirus diarrhoea in infants and young children.

Early milestones achieved between 1988 and 1994 by NorthField included:

• construction and qualification of a factory to manufacture pharmaceutical products;
• setting up a laboratory capable of working with and producing human viral and bacterial pathogens for vaccine development, testing and manufacture;
• compliance activities meeting stringent pharmaceutical regulatory and quality control procedures;
• successful vaccine tests and clinical trials with Gastrogard-R_® in Australia, India and Hong Kong.

 In February 1995, Royal Numico purchased NorthField Laboratories, later changing the company name to Numico Research Australia Pty Ltd.

 In ten years Royal Numico has continued to invest in research ensuring Numico Research Australia has an experienced team, and a suite of products, license agreements and intellectual property.
